Which Eye Protection Products Provide UV Protection?

Understanding UV Shade Markings and Lens Options

To protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, it’s important to choose eye protection with the correct certified shade markings. Under EN 166 and EN 170, lenses with the following markings provide UV protection:

2- and 2C-: Offer UV protection with good colour recognition (2C- includes colour correction).

3- and 5-: These are typically tinted lenses, with 5- (smoke lenses) offering a higher level of UV protection due to their darker tint and greater light reduction.

These protective lenses are available across JSP’s range of safety spectacles, goggles, and face shields.

For enhanced UV filtering, look for lenses marked or described as UV400. These lenses are manufactured with a special additive that filters out UV light up to 400 nanometres, offering improved protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Summary of key points:

  • Certified UV protection is provided by lenses marked 2-, 2C-, 3-, or 5-.
  • 5- (smoke lenses) offer a darker tint and greater UV protection.
  • UV protection is available on JSP spectacles, goggles, and face shields.
  • UV400 lenses block UV rays up to 400nm for superior protection.
